In 2021, I was part of the MIT Rocket Team, because I wanted to pursue aero/astro engineering. I am a member of the liquid-propulsion subteam, and worked on researching different injection schemes for propulsion with liquid fuel and oxidizer (focusing on pintle vs. impinging injector).
The purpose of an injector is to discharge the liquid fuel and oxidizer into the combustion chamber at high velocities such that they are well-mixed and form small droplets to maximize the energy derived from the combustion. We calculated the geometries of injector designs based on given desired flow parameters such as chamber pressure and mass flow rate, and created CAD models for each design.
During that year, I also obtained my L1 certificate of amateur rocketry by building a model rocket with an H impluse class motor.
